Enterprise Charity Challenge

Ardent Selection was delighted to take part in the 5-a-side football competition arranged by Enterprise of Leyland as part of their graduates Charity Challenge. 16 of Enterprise’s top suppliers were invited to take part in what would turn out to be a thrilling afternoon of football, containing more passion, quality and surprises than even the Premier League could muster.

Kitted out in their brand new strip, Ardent Athletic looked the part, striking fear into the opposition. Playing on the sponsored “Ardent Selection Pitch”, the team had the advantage of playing all their matches in front of their adoring fans. The scene was set for an epic series of matches and confidence was high amongst the players.

Unfortunately, the illusion was shattered almost instantly after kick-off; 20 seconds in and 2 goals down, things were not looking particularly good for the team. Hope briefly returned as Suzy Walsh stepped forward with a quick-fire brace of goals, but this wasn’t to last as the game ended up as a 6-2 loss.

The team would go on to battle through the next two games, but with their confidence understandably shattered, Ardent Athletic succumbed to another defeat in their next match, losing 9-2. Captain John Begley did his best to rally the players for one final push; however, the attempt was in vain as the lack of talent throughout the squad became all too apparent! The final match of the group stage saw the team fall to a 7-3 defeat, despite the valiant efforts of goalkeeper Tom Rogers.

Having crashed out at the group stages, the only consolation for Ardent Athletic was that they would not be on the receiving end of the wooden spoon! Despite the disappointment of defeat, the team was more than happy for taking part in aid of a charitable cause.
